Top Dota 2 Tournaments to Bet on in 2019
Dota 2 has a strong league and tournament system that is known to every fan of Valve’s Multiplayer Online Battle Arena game. Hardly any other game is so well equipped with tournaments and leagues as Dota. Dota 2 events are divided into minor, major, and premier events. While a minor tournament usually only brings low prizes to the winners, the Premier and Major Dota 2 events attract prizes of up to $ 1 million for the winning team from the final. The biggest tournament “The International” lures besides the significant award a prize money of over $ 25,000,000 for the first place (as of 2018)! In addition to a look at past tournaments, we want to have a look at the best Dota 2 tournaments to bet on in 2019. We will have also included Dota 2 leagues to prepare our readers for these events and the betting options that are available.
The new competitive season of Dota 2 is here and we have the list of Majors and Minors until the arrival of the next, The International 9, which will be held next summer in the Chinese city of Shanghai. The video game developer company, Valve, announced that there will be a total of five Minors and five Majors that will be competing this campaign, which means a reduction of events compared to last season in which, both organizations and players, complained about the excessive agglomeration of tournaments.
This season direct invitations to Majors and Minors will be over. In this way, all teams will have to pass qualifiers. The only exception will be the winner of Minor, who will automatically secure the next major spot. The third-party tournament organizers will have the power to directly invite some of the teams to the event.
Valve has also changed the number of participants in the competitions. For Minors, eight teams will have to secure their spot through qualifiers which is open to all. For the Majors, 16 teams will compete for the title. 15 teams out of 16 will earn their spot through the regional qualifiers while the last team will be the one to win the Minor event.
In addition, the US company also announced the distribution of points for each of the events. While in the Majors the prize pool will be $1 million along with 15,000 circuit points. In the Minors, the prize pool will only be $300,000 USD along with 500 circuit points.
The Kuala Lumpur Major
The first Major of the season will begin on November 9, ending on the 18th of the month. This event will be organized in Kuala Lumpur, the largest city in Malaysia. The Malaysian city will host the 16 teams and, as a novelty, there will be no direct guests. The prize pool of this Major will be one million dollars to be distributed among all participating teams. The champion will be awarded $ 350,000 (35% of the total) and 4,950 points for the Dota Pro Circuit. However, this event will distribute 15,000 DPC points.
It is necessary to comment that the changes introduced have paid off. In the open qualifiers, many new teams have qualified that were invisible in the previous year.
We could not speak of The Kuala Lumpur Major without mentioning that OG will not participate. The winning team of The International 8 will not be present at the first event of the season. The reasons why OG has declined the invitation are not known.
Bucharest Minor
The details of what will be the second Minor of the competitive season 2018/2019 of Dota 2 by points have just been announced. It will be organized by PGL and will be in Bucharest, the capital of Romania. Let’s see on what dates it will be, the prize and the distribution of classification points.

Registration for open qualifiers is now available. The teams invited to the closed regional qualifiers will be announced later. And of course, the winner of this Minor will get that last place for the second Major of the season. The Bucharest Minor doesn’t offer the largest prize pools, but it does still attract top teams - making it one of the most popular annual Dota 2 tournaments on the professional level.
Qualifiers for the Bucharest Minor
- They will start on December 1 for all regions.
- Each region will have two days of open qualifiers.
- The winners of the open qualifiers will advance to the closed regional qualifiers.

- The regions of Europe and China will have two representatives in the main event.
Dota 2 Summit Season 10
The format of the Summit competition has remained unchanged over the years. The thing that only changed was the number of participants. So, let’s have a look at the format of the previous edition of the competition.
In the Summit 9, All six teams were placed in one group and they competed in a format called “best-of-2”. Those teams that took the first 2 places fell into the winner’s bracket of the playoffs, and the remaining four teams fell into the loser’s bracket. The Grand Final was played in the best of five format.
Beyond the Summit has been hosting the Dota Summit Tournament Series since 2014. Every year, two of the popular Dota 2 tournaments are found. Unlike the big tournaments, there is a much smaller pool of teams in the tournament series. The prize money is usually located in a lower five-digit range. Nevertheless, numerous top teams joined the participants in recent years. While only six teams competed in The Summit 1 and 2, the event attracted two more teams from the third tournament and has been growing since then.
StarLadder StarSeries / SL i-League
Until 2015, the Dota 2 league was played up to four times a year before undergoing a name change. The resulting SL i-League is one of the largest Dota 2 tournaments / leagues in the professional field and extends over twelve top teams. While only four teams are guaranteed direct participation, the rest of the teams will have to fight through a qualifying phase to participate. The first SL i-League Season was launched in January 2016. Offline, the top twelve teams fought each other in two groups. Only the first placed qualified for the later semi-final. The second and third-placed teams of the group, however, had to face again in the qualifying round for the semifinals. Here, the second from Group A played against the third from Group B and vice versa. The last competition, The StarLadder i-League Invitational Season 4 was won by the TI 7 champions, Team Liquid.
The International
The International (TI) is simply the most prestigious and lucrative tournament of Dota 2, as it includes the best teams in the world and has the biggest prize in the entire esports industry. The first TI was held in 2011, as part of the Gamescom festival held in Cologne, Germany. The following year, the event moved to Washington and, since then, it has grown year after year with millions of viewers.
For TI3, Valve decided to do something special: the company launched a digital book called Compendium, which would donate part of its income to the tournament’s stock exchange. In this way, the community of Dota 2 was able to contribute directly to the prize that year increased to $ 2.8 million. The Compendium was a resounding success, but nobody imagined what would happen in the following years: in 2014, the prize went up to more than $ 10 million. In 2016, it exceeded $ 20 million. And this year, it crossed the $ 25 million mark, which would mean a new historical record for this glorious competition.
TI8 was divided into 2 stages: the first one was the group phase that was held earlier in August- you can consult the schedules and precise dates of clashes on the Dota 2 website. Meanwhile, the second stage was the main event that was held between August 20 and 25 at the Rogers Arena located in Vancouver. In the second phase, there were 16 teams that played in a double elimination format for 6 days. Here, the rules are as follows: The first rounds of the lower bracket were played in series to the best of 1 (Bo1), while the grand final was played in a series to the best of 5 (Bo5), and everything else was played to the best of 3 (Bo3).
As you can see, there are numerous Dota 2 tournaments and Dota 2 leagues. Although bookmakers do not always have all the tournaments on offer, they are in the portfolio of every well-stocked bookmaker. For Tipper, however: Not every team takes the small tournaments really seriously and gives everything to win these titles. The focus of the teams is of course on high-priced tournaments, which are advertised with several million-dollar prize money and they are preparing for it intensively.
